I am oldschool, I hand code

A wide number of ads and blog posts are starting to promote web applications[ 1 ] that can easily slice a PSD file into HTML/CSS directly. I have also written about another web application that does the same task, called PSD Breaker.

A technology revolution emerges and from this perspective, it is starting to look good: automated applications can do your job in a few minutes, a task that you, by hand, needed, let us say, 15 hours (more or less) to accomplish.

I can not argue on the priceless advantage of this kind of technologies that emerge this century – it is this type of work, regardless of the instruments used in its making process, that will make our life easier by drastically reducing the time invested in one particular task. After all, we all seek to simply our lives, one way or another.

Its advantage brings its disadvantage, too: web projects are built by human mind, trough logical steps behind every aspect of the project itself and its creation. You consider, from scratch, which elements to show and how to do that. In addition, in this kind of situation, there is how – and in this particular “how” you will invest the most amount of time. You will consider what new technologies you can use to build your web project, optimization for search engines, loading span for your end-users and so on.

An automated web application like this will give you a step ahead, more exactly you will end up saving a few hours on front-end coding, in the short run. For the long run, however, you will need to start thinking about maintenance and how much you will eventually spend to manage your web project, either be from a strictly coding perspective or another.

On every aspect of a web project, attention to details will always be crucial. That fundamental importance you give to your work is what might separate you from your competition and, in the end, win the day.

Google knows that speed is not only a feature, but a huge advantage over its competition, now and even in the future. It does not matter that now we have more increased Internet speeds, they do not take it for granted, but approach speed as a permanent and a must feature of their search services: search results must be provided fast. The fastest way possible.

If these types of web applications will not be able to make a significantly difference on every parts of your work, like: cut down on future maintenance time, optimization for both search engines and various web browsers that you are targeting your work to and so on – then it should not even be a choice to start considering.
