In June(1) and July(2) of 2009, I have expressed my concern about the quality of the code generated by automated applications and now, in 2011, I would extend that disquiet on the newly released software from Adobe, Muse(3).
Design and publish HTML websites without writing code. Adobe Muse statement in August, 2011.
Adobe chose not to create an export-to-html plugin, but rather went to create an application that lets you design and publish websites without writing code, or know what HTML stands for. Unfortunately, the code exported by Muse is nothing about the new standards or, more dramatically said, it is only tabless-generated Dreamweaver-like code.(4)
While the web is shifting towards fluid and responsive layouts(5), Adobe is announcing a tool that would have been well suited five years ago or more. It is not the time for a round of applause for Adobe, as others may affirm; it is step back from the future of the web.
Advocating for the usage of this types of software, like Muse, to create web sites, is in fact, an act of promoting stagnation from what the web is becoming.
